Start your blog for free on one of the free blogging platforms and make money.

I know, I know!

All the blogging experts advise you not to start a blog on a free platform.

And they are right.

You have no legal rights over your business on a free platform.

You should know that your blog can be removed from free platforms without your consent or without an explanation.

The owners of these blogging platforms are within their legal rights to terminate your blog without further notice.

But if you’re broke and want to get out of your financial rut, give it your best shot.

Go ahead and start your blog on a free platform with an end goal of generating enough money to own your business.

That’s what I did.

I started several free blogs on Weebly, Wix, and

And as soon as God provided the money for me, I moved to

Before you get all excited about starting a free blog, let me explain all the pros and cons of starting your business on a free platform.

Blogging as a business

Blogging is a reputable business model. It may not be a traditional job or profession.

But it packs a powerful Financial punch.  There are bloggers that make over $100,000/month and you can too.

Blogging can help you to make your financial dreams a reality.

Become Your Own Boss and spend more time with your family and friends.

But the truth is, blogging is expensive.

  • The money adds up rather quickly in blogging.
  • Domain cost
  • Hosting cost
  • Premium Theme cost
  • Premium plugins
  • Paid courses
  • Consultations/ Coachings ( Seo, Blog, Writing)
  • External software- tailwind hosting fee, canva,
  • Email Marketing cost ( Convert kit, Aweber, Get Response..etc)
  • Freelance Writer cost ( for some bloggers)

Make sure you know for a fact that you want to become a blogger before you waste your money. Money is hard to come by, especially in these hard times with the Coronavirus and so many people losing their jobs or being laid off from work.

Think wisely before you invest your hard-earned money.

A free platform can help you to test the waters before you commit to blogging.

Many persons start a blog and abandon it after a few months. You don’t have to fall prey to this practice.

I started three free blogs before I paid for my blog. I started a blog on, Wix, and Weebly, to see if I liked the blogging process.

And my first two blogs still failed, because I lost interest in them.

Blogging is hard work, it’s not as easy as it looks.

But the return on your investment is worth the time.

Advantages and Disadvantages of  using a free platform

The problem with using a free blogging platform is today you could be in business.

Tomorrow your business is gone. Just like a puff of smoke.

So starting a blog on a free platform could be a waste of your time.

You have no legal right to your business.

Your blog won’t look professional. Free blog platforms have limited customization options.   You have to upgrade to unlock more features to make your blog look good or even different from other blogs.

Therefore your blog is destined to look generic. That does not mean you can’t work with what you have until better comes your way.

Some free platforms don’t allow affiliate marketing links.  Even your ability to make money is limited by the rules of the platform. If you choose to start with which is owned by Google, you’ll be able to get Adsense quickly to help you generate some ad income.

Please note- Adsense pays peanuts. You need a ton of traffic going to your site to make a few hundred dollars.

There is no risk of losing any money. The platform gives you a chance to try and see if you like blogging before investing in a paid platform.

A paid platform gives you legal ownership of your site. If your hosting company removes your website without your consent, you can sue.

You have all the right to sue for any money lost and for breach of contract.

Starting a blog on a free platform

I know not everyone has the money to pay for a domain name and hosting. Maybe you’re on a tight budget and just can’t afford this type of money right now.

You need a strategy.

Create a 6-12 months actionable strategy to make enough money to upgrade your website to paid hosting and a custom domain name.

Find a profitable niche for your business. Write engaging content and drive traffic to your blog.

Monetize your free blog with Google AdSense, affiliate marketing, ebooks, and courses.

When you earn enough money buy hosting and a domain name.

Migrate your blog to and enjoy full ownership of your business.
